The folks at Joomlashack had a busy winter. They have recently produced a template building application. This template builder eliminates the need manually edit CSS files and allows for easy module installation. Being a web designer, I know how much of a pain it can be to convert a XHTML website into a CMS system. With this handy utility, I hope to provide an added service to my arsenal. All right… it is not working! Joomla 1.5 looks fantastic; I really enjoy the administrative structure with only a few minor issues. First issue that comes to mind is the fact most of my modules atomically exploded with the newest 1.5.1 build, this is probably due to me running in legacy mode because of my template was not designed for the new version… my bad. The forth issue I had and that is if you call my template an issue, was the fact that my intros to all my articles displayed a read more link directly to a random 404 page. Now I understand that the intro feature is completely optional and allows for easy placement in the WYSIWYG Editors but the fact that it didn’t work with a clean install was mind boggling to say the least. Until I can be completely sure that 1.5 is the stable solution, I will keep to my retro ways.

Its official! Joomla has finally a new product built almost from scratch, Joomla 1.5 Stable is an outstanding CMS system. “Joomla! 1.5 Stable ushers in a new era for the project. Over the last 2 1/2 years the code base has been melted down and reforged into a carefully organized, object-oriented framework. The user interface has been thoroughly refined to improve usability and simplify administrative tasks.” Our upgrade from Joomla 1.0.13 was easy, with a few minor issues. Urban Prospect plans to use 1.5 as a new standard on all new projects but at this time we refrain from upgrading our existing clients due to compatibility issues that may erupted. Once we are more familiar with this latest release, we will consider upgrade packages.
